Tahoe Web Shop

I enjoy freelancing but sometimes it comes with limitations and one of those I was running into was how to promote myself online, with such a spread out portfolio there are days I struggle to explain what I do to someone on the street so I wanted to put up a front that was simple even if it doesn’t cover half of what I can do.

riley bathurst design priest sheetmetal website update for mid 2019

Priest 2019

I have just finished working on an update to the www.priestsheetmetal.co.nz website. The original site was relatively simple, for a company that has been operating sixty plus years in an industry that isn’t hugely technical as the sheetmetal industry is, the fax number is important on the footer, the analytics show more people using the site on desktop than phones but they needed a presence without a large budget and now we are just slowly moving towards something more exciting.

The content has slightly updated and we have moved away from a bunch of the text for the site being tied up in the video where it was moving and less readable. Adding more background colors adds hierarchy to the elements of the page in a logical order.

With a relatively small update the site still has elements from foundation running the backend but most of the new elements have been built on CSS grid giving a flexibility with the scaling of the site between phone and desktops.

pacrav physiotherapy website on a laptop

Pacrav

I have been working with Matthew at Pacrav as he has been setting up his new physiotherapy business in Reno, Nevada. We have been working on branding and website needs.

The logo for Pacrav is based around the idea of movement, flexibility and strength, we created a unique shape that has an inclusion of the double “A” with a custom word mark and can be used with the tag line as well as in individual parts.

Pacrav has been strongly branded in orange as a bright and lively color which can be used for branding elects or used as a background with white elements over it.

The site with all its branding and ideas can be found at pacrav.com aside from the regular website needs of a business in this day and age but we have taken that further streamlining the consultation forms, since these have been setup Matt has found it has saved time for patients as well as employees.

The site was built on a foundation framework with a wordpress Content Management System, with these together we we’re able to create a site that was affordable but also preforms strongly in many environments, the site is fast and responsive across devices with modern and documented code for easy updates and additions.

Calendar Blackout Dates

I’ve been working on a friends site over at JKBinstalls.co.nz It’s nothing too crazy but has a form or a couple forms that can help them with setting up appointments, the general put your name, email and a few details about what your looking for.

The interesting bit came through with adding a calendar so you can pick what day you want the guys to come around. General jQuery datepicker showing inline which is all well and good except we needed the ability to block out the dates they can’t get around as they are already booked out.

This doesn’t seem to be something that is done very often in the way I’m looking for, possibly because it’s in wordpress or php or html or mysql or maybe I just don’t know the right tools for doing this, or I’m just searching the wrong key words. I’m running a backend page that looks pretty much the same as the front end but behind a login and only has the datepicker, this drops the date in a mysql database but bringing that array back into the front end page to block off the dates took a minute to figure out.

The database comes back in as an array and needs to be converted a single variable which can then be thrown into the script tag, this is the front end form.

I’m missing stuff on the fail states, errors security and things like that but for right now it’s working and you can check out some dates that have been blacked out on http://www.jkbinstalls.co.nz/rangehood/

Wineram.com // Penrose theme

I’ve been working with wineram on a new website, which you can check out but also one of the cool things about it is that if your liking the way it looks the wordpress theme is available for purchase, there are a few custom things involved in wineram’s site but thats cool and as the theme is used for a commercial project already it’s guaranteed to keep getting updates, well more so than me saying I will keep working on a passion project. Penrose as theme is known by itself has been developed with wineram so as a primary use a video portfolio it works great but by no means that is it’s only application.
I do plan on writing more documentation of the theme but as a working example use wineram.com and get in contact riley@rileybathurst.com if you think you might want to use the theme.

Sale Only Woocommerce

So away from my normal post of the media I’ve been creating and to a little something that I couldn’t find and took way too long to do something very simple. I’ve been working on a site that was almost done and they wished to have a Sale page so when anything goes on sale it automatically gets put onto the page, I’m only slightly editing a woo theme so used woo commerce which to be fair I’m not too familiar with but this is something I’ve seen on many site so didn’t hesitate at the request. I could be wrong in the best way to do this but the way I have found it possible and easy to do was

  1. head to my themes folder and find the page.php file
  2. copy this and rename page-sale.php
  3. add the custom-page template code to the top of the page
  4. <?php
    /*
    Template Name: sale
    */
    ?>

  5. get to the site’s dashboard and create a new page
  6. title it sale and in the text editor side of the content type

    [sale_products]

  7. change the template to sale
  8. publish and done in a minute flat

Film Inc Media – Shred & Release

For anyone following any of what I’ve done with video work over the past couple of years you will have seen a Film Inc logo pop up a whole bunch of times, it was Liam Hall’s video name but now we are teaming up to make it into something bigger. The videos will remain largely the same but will have a few extra things like some basic title animations I have been doing in After Effects, this new system of how we are releasing different styles of edits. STATE are the new season edits and were starting the site off with Guido’s, the kid is killing it. Plus you have Drop out’s and strike lapse, both of which are coming soon.
The main change is really the site being the base for what we are doing so check it live at www.filmincmedia.com, it’s not quite a perfect site yet as we decided to push the idea faster than originally planned but I’ll touching it up and making it better depending on where the project leads. It’s a wordpress development with a bunch of plugins and I learnt a bunch of things with the design and development of this one that I may take to a few other sites.
